Hello and welcome ~ My name is Marilyn
I am the recipe developer, author, and person behind-the-scenes here at Maven Cookery. I love to make recipes that are easy and comforting and, of course, delicious! I believe it is very realistic to get great-tasting meals on the table quickly and easily.
I am a proud mom of a First Responder which stands above and beyond all of the other things I do.
Cooking, eating, writing this blog and my cookbooks are what I absolutely love doing professionally in my second act!
Previously I had a long, successful career in corporate finance.
The winding path that brought me here was an incredible journey through Corporate America. My education and work experiences were finance and accounting – not even remotely close to your trained professional chef. But during that time when I traveled the world and ate in restaurants for almost every meal, not only did I experience amazing cuisine and cultures, but I developed a love and appreciation for home-cooked meals.
In 1999, as Director of Accounting Operations for American Express, I had just completed a large-scale worldwide project that was very invigorating. As I pondered what was next on my agenda, I realized it was time for me to take on new and different challenges. My daughter, who was 5 at that time was a delight to spend time with. When she was in school, I delved into several new business startups, a couple of which were fun and most are just unremarkable history.
Above all, I love to cook, entertain and explore new cuisines and cooking techniques. Many of my favorite experiences have been cooking and sharing meals together with family and friends. So why shouldn’t that be the next logical step as a career path? Could it be true that I could justify my obsession with small appliances, gadgets and trying out new recipes? Would all the endless hours of researching cooking methods, reading food magazines and collecting cookbooks have a purpose other than sheer entertainment? Why not find out.
As a result, I decided to try my hand at researching and writing a cookbook. I self-published that book, under a pen name, in mid-2013. What started out as a fun but uncertain project, turned into an Amazon best-seller within 6 months. I was hooked! I was contacted by my current Publisher who was interested in publishing my cookbooks – never in my wildest dreams had I planned on that. Since that time, I have written and published 10 cookbooks and am working on more.
I am hopeful you will be able to take away some great recipes that you, your family or friends will truly appreciate. And please, if you have any questions or comments reach out to me here or on social media.
